Loneliness can happen at any age
Thank you to Co-op in Bolsover and Chesterfield for raising £6300 for our DCHS Charitable Trust. We used the funds raised to support a campaign close to Co-op’s heart by helping address the issues of loneliness in the local community.
Our recent loneliness campaign has been promoting awareness of being lonely at any age, what negative impacts this can cause and how we can better combat this issue through the resources available to us in Derbyshire. Our loneliness leaflet gives some helpful tips on what you can do to tackle loneliness. Click here to download the leaflet. If you think this leaflet would be of benefit to your service, we have a small supply of hard copies in the office. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to request some copies.
Research identifies that radios can help people who are lonely so using the funds raised by Co-op, we also purchased 100 digital radios were also purchased. The idea for the radios is based on research looking at how media and technology can change lives for people at risk of social isolation and loneliness. http://wavelength.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/WaveLength-Summary-Findings-2016.pdf. In the study one recipient expressed it this way: “What I find with the radio is I sleep better, because even though there’s somebody talking in the background, it’s like somebody’s there.” Working closely with The Volunteer Centre for Chesterfield and NE Derbyshire, these radios have been distributed to lunch clubs and people identified as needing more social interaction in the Bolsover and Chesterfield area.
