N3 to HSCN (network migration)

WHAT is the HSCN?

The Health and Social Care Network (HSCN) is a newly developed national data network that has been set up to replace the previous N3 network and provide faster, cheaper and more secure internet connectivity for health and social care providers.

Delivery of the Derbyshire Community, Healthcare and Social Care Network (DCHSCN) will be provided by BT and their catalogue of HSCN Connectivity Services.

WHY is it happening?

Migration over to the HSCN results in a number of benefits for DCHS and hence the patients we treat, including:

  • Faster and more cost effective internet connectivity
  • Enhanced security and Network Monitoring
  • Better access and sharing of information between providers

WHERE will be affected?

All DCHS sites will have their network connectivity migrated over the HSCN. Please Note: Disruption to your network connection will only occur in the final stage of migration (see table below). Communication on when this will be happening will be made well in advance.

WHEN will it happen?

Migrations will be staggered over the next 6-9 months, with a view to begin the first set of migrations in Feb- 2019. Within the following months, we will be providing services with more specific information on the process and expected dates for the key migration steps. Please look out for and acknowledge these communications to help ensure that we minimise delays and disruption.

HOW will it happen? Migration will involve the following steps:

Step

By Whom

Purpose

Priorities

1.Physical Site Surveys

1.DCHS

2. BT OpenReach

To establish resource and connectivity capabilities.

Please help ensure workers are given access to appropriate sites and locations following relevant communication.

2. Circuit installation

BT OpenReach

To install the circuits that the network will run from. At this stage no disruption to your network connection will occur.

Please help ensure workers are given access to appropriate sites and locations following relevant communication

3.  Migration to HSCN

By TACO teams

To physically migrate the network connectivity over to HSCN.

Unfortunately this will result in some unavoidable outage time. This is not expected to be for a long period and we will work extensively with services to help manage and coordinate this.

So what do we need from you?

  • Understanding of the necessity of the work and any unavoidable disruption it will cause
  • Cooperation on the planning and delivery of the migration as required.

Many thanks for your anticipated cooperation. If you have any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to get in contact:
