Essential learning is changing

From April 2019 we are making changes to the way our essential learning programme is delivered. Over the last few months, particularly at the Shaping our Future events, you shared the challenges faced by many of you when it comes to travelling to access training. That helpful feedback, coupled with the lack of suitable training venues, meant we had to change.

So from April 2019 all essential learning will be accessed online via e-learning. You will be auto-enrolled (meaning fewer clicks and easier navigation of ESR), and will be reminded 60 days prior to your individual renewal date. You will also be able to access essential learning modules via smart phone, tablets or the traditional desktop. There will be no changes to the essential learning requirements – you’ll simply access them online as opposed to a classroom environment. The only essential learning courses to remain face-to-face are ‘Think Family’ and Conflict Resolution, both required once every three years, and Resuscitation required annually.

This change should save each of you an average of 3-4 hours when completing the training. We’re looking to roll out this approach to our wider training offer in the future, meaning less travel and more convenience for you. We recognise that e-learning must become easier to navigate so we’re also working hard on that.
