Whitworth, Langwith, Bolsover…estates news

Good news from Whitworth Hospital where work on extending the car parking facilities is progressing well. The car park extension at the rear of the hospital is completed, except for landscaping, and the new spaces are in use. Work on creating a few additional spaces at the front of the hospital is now underway. The £141,000 project is being carried out by Chesterfield-based firm Johnson Surfacing and is being fully funded by Matlock Hospitals League of Friends. When it is all completed later this summer we will have an extra 23 spaces to help ease parking on site. Thanks to everyone who has borne with us during the disruption of the building work. Meanwhile, more good news to report with the new Langwith Medical Centre which is really taking shape. The development – set for completion in September 2019 – will replace the existing surgery with a state-of-the-art facility providing significantly more space and allowing patients access to a wider range of services. Nottingham-based firm Stepnell is carrying out the £1.1 million construction contract to build the new medical centre, which is located within sight of the current outdated practice premises on Main Street, Langwith. On a more poignant note, reports have appeared in the local media this week saying that an application to begin the demolition of Bolsover Hospital has been lodged by Homes England which now owns the site. If approved by Bolsover District Council the work could start as soon as 28 June. As plans for the former hospital site move on, we remember the lasting legacy of all our brilliant staff who continue to provide care to the people of Bolsover in the community.
