Government launches consultation on NHS pensions
The Department for Health and Social Care has launched a consultation on a 50:50 option for NHS pensions which would enable clinicians to half their pension contributions in exchange for halving the rate of pension growth. It comes as many senior NHS staff seek to reduce their workload or decline additional work to slow down the rate at which their NHS pension grows each year and limit the effect of annual allowance taxes.
The consultation also calls for alternative proposals and NHS Providers will be making a submission and other representations separately. The consultation closes on 14 October 2019 and trusts, senior clinicians and all other interested parties can respond online.
