Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme (MARS) - January 2020

Dear all

I am writing to advise all staff that, following discussion at Trust Board in late December, it has been agreed to launch a Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme (MARS). MARS allows members of staff to apply to resign on very specific terms and conditions with an associated payment attached.

The Board has decided that the scheme will be open to all Non-Patient facing Staff, but there is a limited budget which means that each application will be scrutinised and there is no guarantee that any application will be approved. The closing date for applications is no later than 1700 hours on Friday 31 January 2020 and is subject to final approval by the Remuneration and Terms of Service Committee on the 26 March 2020.  Leaving dates will be negotiated on an individual basis.

The information pack, which will guide any interested staff through the process, is attached here for your convenience.

It is important to note that if you apply for the scheme you may not be successful.  Your application will be dependent on how your job/work can be covered if you were to leave and if by creating a vacancy we can offer the post to a member of staff who is subject to redeployment. The Trust will have to ensure that it retains all essential skills and that any MARS payment can demonstrate value for money. We reserve the right to consider, accept or decline all MARS applications and there will be no right of appeal to this decision. All applications will be subject to the Remuneration and Terms of Service Committee approval.

Clearly applying for the MARS is a very big and very personal decision. It is therefore vitally important that any members of staff considering doing so seek professional advice and consider their options very carefully before making their decision.
