Sophie's palliative initiative
Community nurse Sophie Dodsworth has displayed a resource board at Coleman Health Centre around nursing palliative patients with Covid-19. Sophie has gathered all the various resources and information independently, mostly in her own time.
Sophie has always been passionate about palliative care and wanted to support staff who are and will continue to deliver end of life care to patients in the community with Covid-19.
The board covers three key symptom management, advance care planning, and funeral/bereavement services. It explains typical symptoms patients may present alongside the DCHS symptom management pathway in order to support staff with their symptom management approach. It also displays various grief and bereavement resources available for carers/relatives who are equally affected linking with Marie Curie.
On the table Sophie has displayed some cards for staff to take and send to relatives from the team following a death, the card has a lovely poignant poem on the cover and Sophie contacted a local graphic designer to design the art work;
By Sophie doing this board, it focuses all the relevant information to one place for staff to peruse at their leisure which in turn will facilitate informed compassionate palliative care during these uncertain times, It has also encouraged staff to talk about the topics around palliative to help ease to some degree any anxieties staff may have. Well done Sophie!
