We are excited to announce that ‘Schwartz Rounds’ are soon to be offered to all DCHS staff. Our vision is not only to be the best provider of local healthcare, but also a great place to work. As part of our overall wellbeing offer to staff, we believe Schwartz Rounds will move us one step closer towards achieving this aim.
What are Schwartz Rounds?
Schwartz Rounds provide a structured forum where all staff, clinical and non-clinical, come together regularly to discuss the emotional and social aspects of working in healthcare. The purpose of Schwartz Rounds is to understand the challenges and rewards that are intrinsic to providing care; they are not about group problem solving or focused on the clinical aspects of care. They have widely proven to help staff feel more supported in their jobs, allowing them the time and space to reflect with their peers. Evidence shows that staff who take part in Schwartz Rounds feel less stressed and isolated while gaining a greater insight and appreciation for each other’s roles. They also help to reduce hierarchies between staff and to focus attention on relational aspects of care.
The underlying premise for Schwartz Rounds is that the compassion shown by staff – such as you – can make all the difference to a patient’s experience of care, but that in order to provide compassionate care staff must, in turn, feel supported in their work. You can find an information pack here. It’s important to stress that this opportunity is open to all staff, clinical, non-clinical, all bands and disciplines.
We are planning monthly Schwartz Rounds and everyone is encouraged to attend, wherever you are based. We do intend to tour the county to make it as easy as possible. It’s worth noting that Schwartz Rounds are reflective and could count towards CPD for professional registration or revalidation for Nurses and AHPs.
