Surprise visit by Health Secretary Matt Hancock to Ilkeston Community Hospital
It isn’t every day that Health Secretary Matt Hancock pops in to thank DCHS staff for their tremendous hard work over the past year. But he did just that at the end of last Tuesday afternoon in a private visit to Ilkeston Community Hospital requested by local Erewash MP Maggie Throup who also accompanied him.
There was no fanfare, it was deliberately low key, as he called into Heanor Ward, UTC and the Diagnostic and Treatment Centre for a quick chat to staff and patients and to see the range of facilities for himself in a whistle-stop 45 minute visit. Maggie Throup said: “I really wanted Matt to see what we have here in Ilkeston, I’m very proud of our local hospital.”
Although time pressures meant he couldn’t stay for long, he was keen to extend his thanks to everyone at DCHS who has supported the NHS effort over the past year and also chatted to individuals about their own experiences of redeployment and the challenges of caring through the pandemic.
