DCHS food events

Once restrictions are lifted any in-house charity fundraising or other food related events that take place across DCHS will now require a full list of ingredients for any products that are for sale, together with reference to any allergens that these may contain.

Recently there have been several incidents nationally, relating to allergens in hospital food and one of the themes requires clear guidance on controlling risks that may present at charity fundraising or other food events. With this in mind a Code of Practice has been produced for patients, staff and visitors and this has been addressed with the following section;

Food events
The labels for the food must ensure that the information is accurate and all ingredients must be listed.
Any ingredients that could cause an allergic reaction will need to be shown in bold typeface.
The lead organiser of the event will have overall responsibility to ensure this is adhered to.

The 14 main allergens that must be identified on labels are as follows:

  1. Cereal containing gluten (wheat flour protein);
  2. Eggs;
  3. Fish;
  4. Peanuts;
  5. Nuts;
  6. Crustaceans;
  7. Soya;
  8. Celery;
  9. Mustard;
  10. Sesame;
  11. Sulphites;
  12. Lupin;
  13. Molluscs;
  14. Milk
