Armed Forces Week - 21 - 27 June
This week is Armed Forces Week, including Veterans Day on Tuesday 22 June, Reserves Day on Wednesday 23 June and Armed Forces Day on Saturday 26 June. Look out for our Armed Forces Day flags going up this week at the Derby Mass Vaccination Centre and Babington Hospital in support of Armed Forces Week.
Are you a line manager for any of our reservists, veterans or colleagues who have family members in the armed forces? This week is a great opportunity for managers to find out if they have colleagues who are members of the armed forces community and even if you don’t have anyone in your department, you can still show your support and appreciation. If you have a colleague who is part of the armed forces community, please email the Communications team on email@example.com with a short statement about them and why they’re a valuable member of the team. Please share a photo of your colleague too if possible and we will share your comments across our social media channels this week.
Show your support during the week by printing and displaying a copy of the flag image above or the poster below in your workplaces.
Are you a working Reservist or member of the armed forces community? If you've not already added your armed forces status to ESR, we would encourage you to do so. Colleagues who are Reservists can have this role added to ESR as a supplementary role and will be entitled to an extra 15 days’ paid leave for military activity.
Armed Forces and Veterans Network Meeting
Do you have any connections to the Armed Forces? Would you like to meet up with other like-minded people? Or are you interested in finding out more about how DCHS is supporting our colleagues and community with armed forces connections? Our network group is open to all staff and members of the public within Derby and Derbyshire. You can join either as a member if you have connections to the armed forces or simply as an ally by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org and/or email@example.com. Join us at our network’s next meeting on Tuesday 19 October 2021 at 12:30pm - 2pm to offer your support and/or just listen. Click here to join the meeting. You can also follow the network on Twitter at: @DCHSArmedForces
This Armed Forces Week we have a story from our network member, Paula Bearder, a health care assistant at Ripley Urgent Treatment Centre, on not only being a military wife but also a military mother. Give it a read here.
