Diwali - Hindu Festival of Lights - early November
Diwali is a five day religious festival of light observed in early November. Diwali is the biggest festival for many Hindus, also celebrated by Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists. It symbolises the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and light over darkness.
Charles Dewa, our BAME staff network chair, has written this article to help us all understand the significance of the festival better and has included some Diwali recipes as well. Charles said: "We would appreciate our Diwali colleagues to be supported during this important time in their religious activities. It may be difficult to understand, how this can be done, but linking in with a Hindu colleague to get more knowledge of this event may be enough recognition. Also, realising that this is important for them, shows enough inclusiveness."
