East Midlands diabetes prevention week

It's the East Midlands Diabetes Prevention week from 16 - 22 January.

Around 3.9 million people are currently living with diabetes in the UK and 90% of those affected have Type 2 diabetes.

63,000 Derbyshire adults are currently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and a further 73,000 are pre-diabetic and are at a higher risk of developing the condition.

Health professionals in Derby and Derbyshire are working together to prevent more people developing the condition.

A new scheme has been launched across the county called 'Healthier You. The Derby and Derbyshire Diabetes Prevention Programme'.

Healthier You is aimed at people aged 18 and over who have been identified as being at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

People at risk will be invited to take part in a nine month programme that covers topics such as healthy diets, appropriate exercise and weight management.
