Nutrition and Hydration Week
Nutrition and Hydration Week on Riverside older people’s mental health assessment ward was celebrated with real enthusiasm. A variety of activities were organised around the promotion of healthy eating and all patients and staff participated.
Some of the activities included the creation of a healthy eating poster, smoothie making, several cafes taking place throughout the week, poetry, the production of a nutrition and hydration care in dementia care leaflet, baking sessions and housekeepers leading as always on the daily breakfast club.
All staff on the ward have embraced the promotion of healthy options and have asked for more fruit and more regular smoothie sessions so that these options can be available on a daily basis.
Riverside have been providing the cafes and breakfast club successfully for a number of years and this is supported by all staffs and visitors and families.
Feedback on the efforts to celebrate the week have been very positive from visitors, relatives and patients alike and there is a real interest in developing these services further in the future.
During the week, members of our executive team took a turn at serving lunch to patients on some of our hospital wards as a way of supporting the work which our hotel services and clinical staff do on a daily basis in caring for patients.
