Outstanding Way - one year on

The Outstanding Way initiative started before Christmas 2016.  Now, one year on, we thought we would share some of the programme successes with you and highlight the good work that is ongoing as we countdown to Christmas 2017.

Please click on the Christmas tree image to discover more. We will be adding a new highlight each day, for 12 days.

The original principles of Outstanding Way were:

‘Outstanding’ is how we want everyone at DCHS to feel about the work we do and the care our patients and service users experience.  This is a firm commitment from the organisation to clinical staff; a promise to listen and respond to frustrations, look at ways to overcome barriers, deal with challenges and enable staff to do what they are trained and want to do – namely, spending time with and caring for our patients.

This was encapsulated in a cartoon/graphic that has been shared widely and appeared as a screensaver, was used in the 2016/2017 Annual Review and on social media.

Who’s involved in the Outstanding Way?

This initiative is county-wide, starting in our community based teams, and is being led and supported by the following staff: Melissa Deighton – Programme Lead; Julie Wheeldon, Brenda Page and Jane Warder – Operational Leads and Jim Austin – Exec Sponsor.  There are also a number of other staff involved in leading/supporting specific work streams.

Want to get involved in Outstanding Way?

Please email if you’d like to get involved with any of the Outstanding Way projects or have a good idea that you would like to share with us. We are also interested to hear from staff who would like to become team outstanding way advocates. E: dchst.outstandingway@nhs.net
