A familiar face and voice to those further afield, is Kerry Boden a member of our Medical Secretary Team here at Ilkeston Hospital Kerry has now clocked 37 years’ service in the NHS.
Kerry’s career began in a Porta cabin in the Car Park of the now abandoned Grade II listed Wilderslowe House in Derby, Kerry was eventually allowed into the main building which was once attached to the old Derbyshire Royal Infirmary. After taking a break to start a family Kerry then worked a little closer to home working in the old Ilkeston General Hospital just along the Heanor Road; Following its closure in 1987 Kerry’s next 30 years were to be spent at the present site of the Ilkeston Community Hospital.
However, according to her colleagues Kerry then began another journey around the present site working as a Medical Secretary in nearly every corner of the Hospital at one time or another.
Moving from Consultant dictation into Shorthand Notebooks to Golf ball Typewriters and then being amongst the first members of staff to use a computer Kerry’s journey is, and continues to be, one of many discoveries. Congratulations Kerry!
