Outstanding Way - update
An update on the Outstanding Way
About the Outstanding Way – our trust-wide transformation initiative
Launched in October 2016, DCHS is now 18 months in to its wide-reaching and long term transformation project known as the Outstanding Way (OW). This is not an off the shelf programme; it is a conscious commitment by the organisation to tackle the issues our clinicians are facing. We have resolved to listen to staff and respond to their frustrations, look at ways to overcome barriers, deal with challenges and enable them to do what they are trained and want to do – namely, spending time with and caring for our patients.
The programme has been informed by Board insight visits; input and feedback from staff; data from clinical information systems (TPP SystmOne); workforce productivity information and reference costs and benchmark information. These observations have been organised in to themes: getting the basics right; use of data; use of EPR (electronic patient record); aligning strategies and training; consistency; process and service redesign and leadership and culture. There are more than 20 work-streams running, many with interdependencies, seeking to address the issues observed and highlighted by staff.
