FGM Campaign targeting girls in Africa

Launched on 9 July, a new NHS Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) campaign has been introduced by the Department of Health.

The summer school holidays are approaching, and this is the peak time with the amount of girls who are taken outside of the UK to be cut. The Department of Health are raising awareness of the severe health implications of FGM for those living in UK who are also members of communities affected by FGM, with the use of film.

The film features a roundtable table discussion led by Henry Bonsu, a well-known British African broadcaster, together with a panel of experts all speaking openly and candidly about FGM.

The film will be broadcast on several UK African satellite TV channels from 9 – 31 July. You can watch ‘FGM: The Facts’ on the NHS Choices website.
