Remember to check eligibility before calling patient transport
Message on behalf of EMAS and Southern Derbyshire CCG
If you are a healthcare professional planning on booking Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services on behalf of a patient, please check the patient is eligible before making the booking.
You will be asked during the booking process whether you have gone through the eligibility criteria with the patient and you are confident that the patient meets the criteria.
Please note that patients who receive a higher rate enhanced mobility component of Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments are not eligible for transport with EMAS.
If you are unsure if the patient meets the criteria and require a member of the PTS team to make contact with the patient to discuss this, please ask as we are more than happy to do so.
Patients who are not eligible to use the service will need to make alternative arrangements; using public transport, asking friends or family, or taking advantage of community transport.
If you or the patient are unhappy with any decision made, you will need to follow the appeal process. How to do this will be advised during your call.
