George’s money saving tips

The kids are back in school, you’ve enjoyed that whole week of British sun and before you know it, Christmas is weeks away and you’ve yet to buy a thing (if you’re anything like me, anyway!).

Well at least your bank account needn’t be as stressed out. Here’s some key advice for saving some cash on the Christmas shop:

Black Friday – 24 Nov

Hailing from the U.S., Black Friday has established itself as a sales bonanza over the past couple of years. This is the prime-time to stock up on gifts with some hefty discounts at the majority of retailers, because after this date most retailers will hold off on further sales until the New Year. So, remember this date!

Finding pre-Christmas sales

It’s all well and good when the sales are on, but how do you know when, where and what’s on sale? MoneySavingExpert to the rescue!

Their sales finder, in my opinion, is the most accurate and up-to-date, so make sure to take advantage of it to make hunting down a bargain much easier!

HotUKDeals

Well, I can’t go an issue without mentioning this website, can I?! But there’s good reason. Because there’re so many users, as soon as a new bargain is spotted, it’ll be posted on this website before you know it. Each time you think about buying from a retailer, search for it on this website first… as you may well find a better price!

Always look for voucher codes

For seasoned online shoppers, this one’s a given – but if you’re new to the scene, then this’ll definitely save you some pennies! Almost every online retailer has a ‘voucher’ or ‘discount’ codes section on the checkout form.

As such, your last port of call before placing an order (having already searched for the lowest price, of course!) should be to go to your good friend Google and simply search ‘*retailer* discount code’. You’ll be inundated with websites that provide a list of discounts – and you will find that a lot of them have expired or aren’t valid.

But, don’t give up! Try to go through at least five or so websites – the 2-3 minutes spent searching are well worth it for that elusive working code! Also, these codes can sometimes stack, so if you find more than one, always try them out together for a potential bumper-saving combo!

Happy shopping – catch you in the next issue!
